Chhattisgarh/Raigarh/Lara  : In a vibrant celebration of tradition and community spirit, NTPC Lara organized a musical instrument distribution programme aimed at preserving and promoting the region’s rich cultural legacy of Sankirtan. The initiative was held for folk artists from eight nearby villages, marking a significant step towards safeguarding indigenous art forms.

The event, conducted as part of NTPC’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior company officials including Mr. Anil Kumar (Executive Director, NTPC Lara), Mr. Ravi Shankar (Chief General Manager, Project), Mr. Zakir Khan (Deputy General Manager, Human Resources), local village heads (sarpanches), and a large number of villagers.

A key highlight of the programme was the distribution of traditional folk instruments such as mridang, jhanjhar, and manjeera to 17 local cultural groups. These instruments are not merely tools of music, but vital emblems of identity and heritage — connecting generations through rhythm and song.

Adding charm to the event were live performances by various cultural troupes who brought local folk songs to life. The reverberating beats of the mridang and the melodic chimes of the manjeera filled the venue with an infectious sense of pride and joy.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Anil Kumar emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous traditions in the face of rapid modernization. He reiterated NTPC Lara’s vision of not only powering the nation but also nurturing the cultural and social ecosystems of its surrounding communities.

Chhattisgarh, often regarded as a cultural treasure trove, counts Raigarh among its key cultural centres. Sankirtan—a devotional and spiritual practice involving music and community participation—continues to serve as a means for villagers to connect with the divine while fostering collective harmony.

The initiative received heartfelt appreciation from the local community, who welcomed NTPC’s efforts in recognizing and empowering their cultural identity. For many, it was a moment of validation — an assurance that their art, stories, and music hold value.

Through such initiatives, NTPC Lara affirms its role as a responsible corporate citizen — one that not only contributes to infrastructure and economic development but also spiritually enriches the lives of the communities it serves. By bridging the past and the present, NTPC continues to foster harmony, pride, and resilience across its neighbouring villages.
