Republic Day–2026: 982 Security Personnel Across the Country Awarded Gallantry and Service Medals; Police Officers from Chhattisgarh Also Honoured

New Delhi/Raipur | On the occasion of Republic Day–2026, the Government of India has announced gallantry and service awards for a total of 982 officers and personnel from the Police, Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and Correctional Services, in recognition of their exceptional courage, dedication to duty, and outstanding service.
The awards announced include 125 Gallantry Medals (GM), 101 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 756 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM). Gallantry Medals are conferred on personnel who have displayed extraordinary bravery by risking their lives to protect citizens, prevent crime, or respond courageously during critical situations. Service medals, on the other hand, recognise long-standing integrity, devotion to duty, and exemplary professional performance.

Among the recipients of Gallantry Medals are personnel deployed in Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas, the Jammu & Kashmir region, the North-Eastern states, and other sensitive regions, reflecting their significant contribution under challenging conditions.

Contribution of Chhattisgarh

In these nationally announced honours, police officers and personnel from the state of Chhattisgarh have also been recognised for their distinguished and meritorious services, bringing pride to the state.

    Through these honours, the dedication and sacrifice of personnel engaged in internal security, law and order, public service, and disaster management at both national and state levels have been formally recognised. The honoured police officers from Chhattisgarh continue to play a vital role in strengthening the security framework of the state.
