Udaipur (Ambikapur) : Adani Vidya Mandir (AVM), Surguja, has achieved a significant milestone in school education by securing accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), under the Quality Council of India (QCI), for the academic session 2024–25. With this recognition, AVM Surguja has become the first school in rural Chhattisgarh to receive this rigorous, evaluation-based national accreditation for quality education.
The accreditation is a formal endorsement that the school’s academic systems, teaching–learning practices, and administrative processes conform to nationally prescribed quality benchmarks. The achievement reflects Adani Foundation’s long-standing commitment to inclusive and high-quality education, particularly in rural and underserved regions, where access to structured and outcome-oriented schooling remains limited.
A journey of excellence
Adani Vidya Mandir, Surguja, is a flagship educational initiative of the Adani Foundation, located in the remote tribal village of Salhi in Surguja district. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and primarily caters to children from tribal families whose land was acquired for coal mining projects of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL).
More than a conventional educational institution, AVM Surguja functions as a centre of social transformation. Its core objective is to integrate first-generation learners from tribal communities into the mainstream education system. Most students come from economically and socially marginalised backgrounds, where academic support at home is minimal or absent.
The school provides completely free education to all its students. In addition to classroom instruction, it ensures holistic student welfare by supplying textbooks, stationery, uniforms, nutritious breakfast, and midday meals. Transportation is arranged through school buses that bring students from forested areas within a 30-kilometre radius, ensuring regular attendance despite geographical challenges.
As part of the accreditation process, the school underwent extensive internal audits, followed by the final on-site assessment conducted by NABET evaluators on February 5 and 6, 2025. The successful completion of this process led to the award of accreditation for the current academic session.
Significance of NABET accreditation
NABET accreditation is not merely a certification but a structured framework for continuous institutional improvement. It mandates schools to adopt systematic, transparent, and outcome-driven processes across academics, governance, and student development.
With this accreditation, AVM Surguja aligns itself with schools in metropolitan regions in terms of educational infrastructure and learning resources. The campus is equipped with a scientifically designed library, e-learning-enabled computer education across all classes, fully functional science laboratories, and sports facilities aimed at promoting physical well-being.
The accreditation validates that the school’s academic planning, curriculum delivery, and assessment systems are in line with best national practices, as expected of a CBSE-affiliated institution. It also strengthens accountability mechanisms across teaching and administration, thereby enhancing stakeholder confidence, including that of parents, communities, and regulatory bodies.
A key component of the NABET framework is faculty development. Teachers at AVM Surguja will benefit from structured training programmes and continuous professional development opportunities, ensuring that classroom practices remain contemporary, student-centric, and pedagogically sound.
Importantly, the accreditation promotes balanced education, fostering not only intellectual growth but also students’ social, emotional, and cultural development. The school consciously integrates modern education with respect for tribal traditions and local cultural values, ensuring that students remain rooted in their identity while preparing for higher education and future careers.
Setting a benchmark for rural education
Situated amid the serene rural landscape and dense forests of Surguja, Adani Vidya Mandir has emerged as a model institution for quality schooling in remote regions. As the first school in Chhattisgarh’s rural belt to receive NABET accreditation, it sets a new benchmark for educational excellence and institutional governance.
The achievement is the result of the collective dedication and sustained efforts of the school’s management, teachers, staff, students, and the wider Adani Foundation ecosystem. It reinforces the belief that with focused investment, structured processes, and community-centric vision, rural schools can meet — and even exceed — national quality standards.
This milestone ensures that AVM Surguja will continue to evolve in line with the changing landscape of education and technology, equipping its students with the skills, confidence, and academic foundation required to compete at national and global levels.
