NIT Raipur Inaugurates ‘CodeUtsav 9.0’ – A National Hackathon Celebrating Innovation and Technology
Raipur : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur inaugurated the two-day national-level coding hackathon ‘CodeUtsav 9.0’, organized by the Turing Club of Programmers (TCP). The 28-hour-long event has drawn enthusiastic participation from students representing leading technical institutions across the country. The hackathon aims to foster innovation, creativity, and problem-solving abilities while strengthening teamwork and collaborative learning among young technologists.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Satkumar Tomar, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Satyukt Analytics, as the Guest of Honour. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Manoj Chopkar, Dean (Student Welfare); Dr. Sameer Bajpai, Head, Career Development Centre; and Dr. Pawan Kumar Mishra, Faculty In-Charge of the TCP Club, along with other faculty members and students.
In his welcome address, Dr. Sameer Bajpai highlighted that coding should not remain the domain of a few specialists but must be embraced by all engineering students. He noted that learning to code enhances logical reasoning and equips students with the ability to solve real-world problems effectively. He appreciated the students’ active participation and encouraged them to utilize such platforms to develop practical technical expertise.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Satkumar Tomar emphasized that the true objective of any coding project should be to develop solutions that address pressing societal issues. He urged students to understand real user needs and apply their technical knowledge to create impactful solutions. Sharing insights from his personal experience, he remarked that reading and continuous learning broaden one’s perspective and deepen understanding.
In his remarks, Director Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao observed that hackathons are vital for nurturing creativity and innovation under time-bound conditions. He added that such competitions foster teamwork, communication skills, and confidence among students, offering them valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom environment.
The ninth edition of ‘CodeUtsav’, themed ‘Code Carnival’, is being organized at NIT Raipur’s Central Computing Centre (CCC). More than 150 participants from over 40 teams representing different technical institutions across India are taking part in the competition. The hackathon features five real-world problem statements encouraging participants to design innovative solutions. A special ‘Open Innovation’ category has been introduced exclusively for first-year students to develop projects based on their original ideas.
Among the participating teams, ‘Codeblooded’, comprising third-year Information Technology students Tanmay Srivastava, Ambar Agrawal, Raksheet Shetty, and Tejas Surya, presented ‘Skinalyze’—a machine learning-based offline dermatology assistant that aids doctors in diagnosing skin diseases and tracking treatment progress, even in low-network areas.
Another notable team, ‘Nir Sutra’ from Bennett University, Greater Noida, showcased a multilingual speech-to-text converter designed to improve digital accessibility for the hearing-impaired. Their project integrates an avatar and color-coded visual cues representing sound intensity and emotions, making conversations more comprehensible for the deaf community. The solution employs Python, JavaScript, Node.js, React, FastAPI, and machine learning frameworks.
Now in its ninth year, ‘CodeUtsav 9.0’ stands as a platform celebrating innovation, collaboration, and applied learning. The event continues to inspire students to translate their ideas into real-world solutions, strengthening India’s growing ecosystem of technology-driven problem-solving.
