School management saves student’s life after suicide attempt in Mungeli

Mungeli : A quick and responsible intervention by the management of SLS Academic Higher Secondary School saved the life of a Class 10 student who attempted suicide by jumping from the second floor of the school on Wednesday.
Immediately after the incident, the school principal and staff rushed the student to the District Hospital, Mungeli. Considering her condition, she was first referred to Apollo Bilaspur and later admitted to Ramkrishna Care Hospital, Raipur for advanced treatment. The school management has taken full responsibility for the medical expenses. The student is currently reported to be out of danger.
Speaking from Raipur, the student’s father, Dharmendra Singh, said, “The school management not only ensured my daughter reached the hospital in time but has also fully supported her treatment. Their timely action has been a great support to our family. We are deeply grateful.”
Following the incident, District Collector Kundan Kumar formed a probe team. The team visited the hospital in Raipur and met the student, who stated in writing that she had taken the step due to personal stress and that the school bore no responsibility for the incident.
Staff and eyewitnesses reported that the student had jumped from the railing after school hours following the end of the trimester examinations. Teachers on site acted promptly to stabilise her and ensure immediate medical care.
The school principal, Dilip Tamrakar, said, “Every student is like a part of our family. This is an unfortunate incident, but the management and staff responded immediately. The student’s treatment is now under the full supervision of the school management.”
