Raipur speeds up youth-driven road safety push with ‘Sadak Suraksha Mitra’ rollout

Raipur : The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC), Raipur on Wednesday cleared the way for the district-wide rollout of the ‘Sadak Suraksha Mitra’ initiative, aimed at reducing road

crashes through youth participation. The meeting, chaired by Collector Dr. Gaurav Singh at the Red Cross Hall, focused on fast-tracking the joint programme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Deputy Director of MY Bharat, Arpit Tiwari, informed the committee that youth volunteers will be enrolled on the MY Bharat platform for a three-month Experiential Learning Programme (ELP). During this period, they will work in the field with the Traffic Police and the RTO, and submit progress reports to the DRSC. The ELP will cover three key areas—support at crash sites including crowd management and green corridors, road-safety audits and blackspot rectification, and awareness and first-response training in schools, colleges and community spaces.
Collector Dr. Singh emphasised the need for “initiatives that bring measurable reduction in fatalities” and urged the RTO, Traffic Police and all DRSC members to extend full cooperation so that “Raipur can emerge as a best-case study at the national level.” The committee also approved the proposal to designate NIT Raipur as a knowledge partner to provide technical and academic support.
The training of volunteers will be conducted in collaboration with SaveLIFE Foundation and IIT Madras (CoERS). Registrations for interested youth will be facilitated through the MY Bharat platform ahead of deployment in the field.
