Bilaspur : A disturbing incident unfolded in Shantipur (Dhuma) village of Bilaspur district, where the body of a young man, identified as Ashish Khande, was found hanging from a tree nearly a week after he allegedly took his own life. The corpse, severely decomposed and emitting a foul stench, made it difficult for villagers to remain near the site.
Upon receiving information, the village sarpanch alerted Junapara Police Outpost. Station in-charge Sanjeev Thakur, along with Head Constable Praveen Pandey and Constable Anjay Kaushik, reached the spot and safeguarded the site throughout the night despite the unhygienic and hazardous conditions.
Given the late hour and the location’s inaccessibility, post-mortem procedures could not be conducted immediately. The following morning, at around 9 a.m., Block Medical Officer Dr. Gangaram Bareth arrived with his team. With assistance from police personnel and local villagers, the body was carefully brought down and an on-site post-mortem was conducted. The remains were later handed over to the family.
Under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Rajnesh Singh, Additional SP (Rural) Archana Jha, and SDOP Kota Nupur Upadhyay, the coordinated efforts of the police and health department drew praise from villagers, who lauded the officials for fulfilling their “humanitarian duty” under such challenging circumstances.
