Bilaspur :  The High Court of Chhattisgarh has designated three eminent lawyers as Senior Advocates in accordance with the statutory provisions and judicially laid guidelines. The decision was made under Section 16 of the Advocates Act, 1961 and Rule 7 of the High Court of Chhattisgarh (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2018, which draw authority from the landmark Indira Jaising vs. Supreme Court of India judgment of 2017.

As per Notification No. 15708/SCDSA/2025 issued by the Registrar General on Wednesday, the Full Court approved the elevation of Ashok Kumar Varma, Manoj Vishwanath Paranjpe, and Sunil Otwani to the status of Senior Advocates. The designation comes into effect immediately.

The Full Court deliberated on their professional standing, legal competence, courtroom conduct, and contributions to the legal field before conferring the title-considered one of the highest recognitions at the Bar.

Registrar General Maneesh Kumar Thakur, in the official notification, noted that the designations were made following the prescribed procedure “to acknowledge distinguished advocacy and uphold the integrity of the profession.”

Commenting on the significance of the designation, High Court lawyer Amit Soni observed, “Being designated a Senior Advocate is a recognition of exceptional merit and legal stature. It not only brings professional distinction but also reinforces public confidence in the institution of justice.”
