Fast-track court in Dantewada awards 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding accused guilty of sexually assaulting a differently-abled Class 11 student
Sukma: A fast-track court in Dantewada has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a differently-abled student. After completing the trial, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence.
The verdict brought an emotional response from the victim’s family.
Class 11 Student Was Returning Home
According to the complaint registered with the police, the victim was studying in Class 11.
On the day of the incident, she was returning home at around 6 pm when the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her and fled from the spot.
When the girl reached home, her family members noticed that she was crying and asked her what had happened. She reportedly told them that the accused had sexually assaulted her.
Police Initiated Investigation
Following the complaint by the victim and her family, police registered a case against the accused.
Police subsequently apprehended the accused and questioned him about the incident. The victim was also medically examined by a woman medical officer as part of the investigation.
According to the prosecution, the medical examination and other evidence supported the allegations.
Police recorded the victim’s statement and collected relevant evidence before arresting the accused and producing him before the court.
Court Describes Offence as Heinous
The case was taken up by the Dantewada Fast-Track Court with the objective of ensuring an expeditious trial.
The prosecution presented documentary evidence, the medical report and witness statements before the court. The government prosecutor strongly argued the case and sought conviction based on the evidence presented during the proceedings.
After hearing both sides and examining the available evidence, the court found the accused guilty under Section 64(2)(t) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as stated in the case proceedings provided.
10-Year Rigorous Imprisonment
The court subsequently sentenced the accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The court observed that the offence was not merely a crime against an individual but also caused a serious injury to the dignity and humanity of the victim.
The prosecution’s effective presentation of the evidence, along with the fast-track proceedings, resulted in the case reaching its conclusion with the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
The victim’s family expressed strong emotions following the court’s decision.
