Jashpur : In a significant administrative strike against organised cattle trafficking syndicates, Jashpur Police has begun the formal forfeiture process of vehicles used for illegal transportation of cattle under its continuing anti-smuggling campaign, ‘Operation Shankhnaad’. Based on a consolidated report submitted by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashi Mohan Singh, the District Magistrate and Collector, Rohit Vyas, has passed orders to confiscate 21 vehicles seized in 18 different criminal cases linked to cattle smuggling.

So far, the police have registered 85 cases and arrested 123 accused involved in illegal cattle trade since January 2024. Through these operations, over 900 bovines have been rescued from illicit slaughter and transportation chains. A total of 46 vehicles, including pick-up trucks, SUVs, and goods carriers—many with Jharkhand registration plates—have been seized, with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 4 crore. Of these, 21 vehicles have now been officially forfeited, while the remaining are under legal scrutiny for imminent confiscation.

According to officials, several of the vehicle owners, including Mohammad Jalaluddin from Ranchi, Mohammad Mogerah Ansari from Sisaai, Nandu Ganjhu from Burmu, and Kamran Faras from Gumla, were given sufficient opportunity to present their case before the competent authority. However, after due legal consideration, the district administration issued final forfeiture orders. The vehicles in question had been directly implicated in multiple cattle trafficking instances.

“The forfeiture drive marks a pivotal step in dismantling the logistical infrastructure of cattle smuggling operations. These actions not only deliver a strong economic blow to the traffickers but also reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance. We are also intensifying efforts to arrest absconding offenders and prevent recurrence of such crimes,” stated Jashpur SSP Shashi Mohan Singh.
