Ambikapur : With the aim to foster curiosity and awareness about sustainable mining practices, the Adani Foundation under Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) has intensified its community outreach through the ‘Udaan’ project at the five-star-rated PEKB coal mine in Udaipur block of Sarguja district.

In a series of educational visits held on 10th, 26th and 30th April 2025, a total of 133 students and faculty members from Government Girls Education Complex, Ambikapur; Kanya Shiksha Parisar School, Udaipur; and Government Polytechnic College, Surajpur, took part in on-ground interactions at the mine. The project intends to expose youth from rural and tribal belts to practical models of responsible coal mining, environmental sustainability, and corporate social accountability.

Students explored the nursery where over 1.5 million trees of multiple species have been planted on reclaimed land, now resembling dense green forests. Participants were also taken to the Adani Skill Development Centre and Adani Vidya Mandir to understand how integrated welfare models operate alongside energy operations.

Special sessions were held for Polytechnic mining students on advanced machinery like ‘Dozer Push’, offering insights into modern excavation technologies and eco-sensitive handling.

The initiative drew appreciation from faculty and students alike. Principal N. Yogesh of Government Polytechnic College remarked, “PEKB’s commitment to restoring mined areas into green belts is truly exemplary. Their safety, environmental care, and operational integrity rightly justify the mine’s five-star recognition.”

Echoing the sentiment, Rishabh Singh, a student, said, “This visit has changed our perception of mining. The effort PEKB puts into balancing development and ecology is both inspiring and reassuring.”

Beyond educational exposure, PEKB and RRVUNL have also contributed to infrastructure upgrades in 14 surrounding villages—ranging from school building repairs, BALA painting, roadworks, public waiting sheds, and sanitation facilities.

With over 14 lakh trees already planted across 450 hectares of mined land, PEKB’s model stands as a benchmark in environmentally responsible mining, and the Udaan initiative has become a gateway for young minds to witness this transformation firsthand.
