New Delhi @The Apna Chhattisgarh । Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who lit the torch of economic liberalization in India, died on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS, Delhi) at the age of 92. AIIMS said in an official statement that due to deteriorating health, Dr. Singh was admitted to the medical emergency at 8.06 pm. Earlier, he was undergoing treatment for age-related ailments and had suddenly fainted at home. He breathed his last at 9.51 pm on Thursday night. The Central Government has declared seven days of national mourning on the death of Dr. Singh. All programs scheduled for Friday have been cancelled. A cabinet meeting has been called at 11 am. It has been announced that the last rites will be performed with full state honours. Many personalities including President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai have expressed condolences.

Economic reforms…

Dr. Singh was Prime Minister twice from 2004 to 2014. He is counted among the great economists of the country. He was also the leader of the opposition from 1998 to 2004. However, after the victory of Congress in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he took oath as the 14th Prime Minister of the country. He held the post of Prime Minister in UPA-1 and 2. Manmohan took oath as Prime Minister for the first time on May 22, 2004 and for the second time on May 22, 2009. He was the architect of India’s economic liberalization as Finance Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao government in 1991.

KC Venugopal also visited BelagaviI left and returned to Delhi. Earlier on Thursday, Congress had announced a 13-month long campaign against the attack on the Constitution and inflation.

Manmohan will be remembered for big changes in the country

Economic reforms: No improvement seen
1, Manmohan Singh was the pioneer of economic reforms in the country. When he took over as Finance Minister in 1991, he brought about an economic revolution. After his economic reform programs the sinking economy came to life and after that there was no looking back. The economic reforms done by him are still praised in the world.

NREGA: 100 days employment guarantee
2. The credit for the success of the Employment Guarantee Scheme in the country goes to Manmohan Singh. He fixed 100 days of employment in a year and minimum daily wage at Rs 100. It was called the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). This scheme is still providing relief to people.

Identity: Aadhaar Card Scheme
3, Unique Identification Authority of India was formed in 2009 during the time of Manmohan Singh 3. It was started to give identity to every person of the country and to extend the benefits of government schemes to him. Even today, Aadhaar card is necessary to avail the benefits of many schemes.

Milestone: India-US nuclear deal
4. During Manmohan’s tenure, America had to bow down in the matter of India’s nuclear untouchability and finalized the nuclear deal. After that India emerged as a powerful country in terms of nuclear weapons.

Revolutionary step: Right to education and information handed over
5. Right to Information and Right to Education were achieved during the tenure of Manmohan Singh. In this, the right to get information from the government department and education of the children of 6 to 14 years was ensured.

Was born in Gah in western Punjab

Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in Gah in western Punjab, which is now part of Pakistan. After the partition of India in 1947, his family came to India. His father’s name was Gurmukh Singh and mother’s name was Amrit Kaur. He married Gursharan Kaur in the year 1958. He also has three daughters, named Upinder Singh, Daman Singh and Amrit Singh.

Last seen in public in January

Manmohan Singh stayed away from politics in recent years due to health reasons. His health was not good since the beginning of 2024. His last public appearance was at the launch of his daughter’s book in January 2024.

Risen from an ordinary background to become an economist
