Major IPS reshuffle on cards, top brass uneasy

Five Range IGPs tipped for transfer anytime after April 7 till May*

// Reshuffle likely to unseat SPs in at least 12 districts

// Old regime’s blue-eyed officers eyeing surprise comeback

Raipur । In what is being dubbed a major shake-up within Chhattisgarh Police, the Home Department is learnt to be finalising a wide-ranging IPS reshuffle that may impact postings across all major tiers—from Range Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) to district-level Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).

Sources indicate that five Range IGPs, including those currently heading Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur and Surguja ranges, are tipped for imminent transfer. *Two DIG-rank officers* are also likely to be moved, one of whom—currently posted in Surguja—is believed to be in line for a plum assignment.
(*Hint*: *The officer was a blue-eyed official during the previous regime*.)

Adding to the thrill, *a senior officer heading a state’s investigative agency* is also on the reshuffle radar, *allegedly due to internal complaints from high-level political functionaries and mounting controversies around the working style of the agency under his leadership*.

The impending changes are also expected to ripple across district police leaderships.

According to credible indications, SPs of Durg, Jashpur, Raigarh, Korba, Balodabazar, Dhamtari, Ambikapur, Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh, Janjgir and Mungeli are likely to be replaced.

Adding more thrill, two senior officers from the previous regime—*one IGP rank and one DIG*/*SP*—are making a strong bid for high-profile return.
(*Hint*: *Both were prominent faces in Durg & Korba during the Congress tenure*.)

Those IPS officers currently holding charge in these districts and carrying a clean image with a flair for field operations may find themselves rewarded with prized postings. On the other hand, those facing intra-departmental controversies or considered non-performers might end up sidelined with loop-line assignments.

In a probable balancing act, a female IPS officer is also expected to receive a significant promotion with an influential posting. Moreover, promotee IPS officers may have a field day, with many in line for key district and range-level assignments in this long-anticipated rejig.

This much-anticipated exercise, sources say, could be rolled out anytime after Monday, April 7, and may continue in phases until May 2025, gradually reshaping leadership dynamics across various levels of the state police hierarchy.

Disclaimer:
Last-minute changes, delays or strategic revision in reshuffle execution cannot be ruled out now that news of the move is in the public domain.
