Durg – Notorious criminal Amit Josh, who was absconding for a long time, has finally been killed in an encounter by Durg Police. About 35 cases have been registered against him including serious crimes like assault, hooliganism, murder and pistol firing. With the encounter of this history-sheeter, a chapter of terror in Durg Bhilai ended.While disclosing the encounter in the press conference held in the Police Control Room, Sector 6, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla said that on the intervening night of 25th and 26th June 2024, at around 1.30 am, Amit Josh along with applicant Ramandeep Singh and his two other associates were killed in Globe Chowk. And his co-accused Dagi, AnkurAnd was abused by Yashwant.The accused Amit Josh, with the intention of killing them, fired two-three shots from the pistol kept with him and ran away along with his associates. Sunil Yadav and Aditya Singh were injured due to bullet injuries. On the report of applicant Ramandeep, crime number 285/2024, section 307, 34 IPC, 25-27 Arms Act was registered in Bhilai Nagar police station. Taking the above incident committed by a notorious criminal very seriously, the incident took place under the direction of Jitend Shukla, Superintendent of Police, Durg and under the guidance of Sukhnandan Rathore, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bhilai City, Satyaprakash Tiwari, Nagar Superintendent of Police, Bhilai Nagar, Hem Prakash Nayak, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Qaim Durg. Of othersThe accused were arrested.Teams were formed and sent to different states to trace and arrest the accused Amit Josh and a reward of Rs 40,000 was also announced for his arrest. Information was being received about the accused Amit Josh living secretly in Durg-Bhilai area, in view of which all the police stations/posts were directed for checking and blockade of hotels, lodges, dhabas, railway stations on 07th and 08th November. Was sent and ACCU team was also deployed. Last evening, on 08th November, the police team searching saw Amit Josh near Jayanti Stadium. On seeing the police, he started running towards the forest bushes near Jayanti Stadium. After searching, the team immediately informed senior officials about this. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kaim Hem Prakash Nayak reached the spot along with the team of ACCU, after seeing the police vehicle, Amit Josh opened fire on the police vehicle with the intention of killing. The police opened fire in self-defense, resulting in the death of absconding accused Amit Josh in the encounterSP Jitendra Shukla told that the police wanted to capture Amit Josh alive, even after warning by our team, he did not agree and the police killed Amit Josh in the encounter. Police are taking legal action by establishing crime and path in the incident. FSL team was called to the spot and proper inspection and seizure action was taken. After the Panchnama was done by the Executive Magistrate, post mortem of Amit Josh’s body was done by a team of doctors. The police team that was part of the encounter has been encouraged by senior officers. Additional SP Sukhnandan Rathore, Hem Prakash Nayak, Satya Prakash Tiwari, Harish Patil were present in the press conference.
It is noteworthy that even before this, Durg Police had conducted three encounters. First case – Durg police first went to Anjora area of Durg in the year 2001 to arrest the notorious accused Sukhwinder Singh alias Sok. During this, he was killed in an encounter between the accused and the police. Notorious accused Sukhwinder Singh and his henchmen had kidnapped a businessman, after which the police was searching for Sukhwinder. This was the first encounter in Durg district. Second case – The second encounter took place in Bhilai in the year 2005. History-sheeter Govind Vishwakarma was also involved in the much-discussed Mahadev Mahar murder case. Police received information that accused Govind Vishwakarma is around Talpuri. Due to which an attempt was made to surround and arrest him, but Govind opened fire on the police. After which Govind became victim of bullet in retaliatory firing by the police. Third case – The third encounter took place in Jamul in the year 2010. On receiving information that Nagesh, a member of North Bastar Maad Joint Divisional Committee, and his wife Tarabai, a member of Raoghat Area Committee, had reached Bhilai to buy cartridges, the police started searching for both of them. During the search, police got information that both were in Jamul area. After this, when the police was going to arrest him, Nagesh opened fire on the police. After which Nagesh and his wife Tarabai were shot in retaliatory firing by the police, due to which they died
